TEXAS: ANOTHER MAN TIED TO AL-AWLAKI

Fort Hood gunman Nidal Malik Hasan's religiously inspired shooting spree last year led to revelations that he had contact with al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki via email on multiple occasions. The cleric also had ties to the 9/11 hijackers as well as the would be Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab and failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad. Now we learn that another Texas man communicated via email with al-Awlaki and has been indicted in Houston.

Via Main Justice:
Another U.S. citizen who communicated with al-Qaeda propagandist Anwar al-Awlaki has been charged in federal court, the Justice Department said Thursday.

A federal grand jury in Houston indicted Barry Walter Bujol Jr., 29, for attempting to provide material support to an affiliate of al-Qaeda known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Bujol also was charged with aggravated identity theft, according to the Justice Department.

Bujol was arrested on May 30 after he boarded a ship at a port in the Houston area prepared to travel overseas to fight jihad, the Justice Department said.

Bujol, of Hempstead, Texas, first came under investigation by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in 2008, according to a DOJ news release.
The Denver Post reported back in December that an arrest warrant was issued for al-Awlaki on charges relating to passport fraud. He was allowed out of the country in 2002 after being briefly detained at JFK airport because the arrest warrant had been inexplicably withdrawn.
