ALEXI GIANNOULIAS'S ISLAMIC PROBLEM

A huge part of the controversy over the ground zero mosque and the Imam leading the effort - Feisal Abdul Rauf - has to do with where the funding is coming from. As this story continues to get legs, the Democratic Senatorial candidate for Obama's old seat may have to answer for some similarly disturbing sources.

The timing of all of this couldn’t be worse for Illinois Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias who faces questions of his own regarding who is funding his campaign. Take Mohammed Sahloul for example, who contributed $1,000 to the Giannoulias campaign on June 22.

Sahloul is the former president of the Mosque Foundation, a Bridgeview mosque that has numerous links to terrorist organizations. The Mosque Foundation contributed roughly $400,000 to four Islamic charities that were later shut down by the federal government for links to terrorism. According to the Chicago Tribune, the organizations receiving funds were: the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, the Benevolence International Foundation, the Islamic American Relief Agency, and Global Relief Foundation.

So in addition to some very questionable dealings between Alexi's bank and Tony Rezko, it appears he's taken money from Islamic groups tied to terrorism. Kinda makes Alvin Greene look better, doesn't it?

OLBERMANN LOWERS BAR ON HIS WILLFULL DENIAL

We are witnessing a phenomenon on the left unfold daily at this point. Keith Olbermann is the perfect case study, reflecting a level of self-loathing that clear thinking people simply cannot relate to. Enter Keith Olbermann who is displaying overt appeasement for all to see, saying that if the ground zero mosque is prevented from being built, it will be the first step toward the next holocaust.

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann delivered a "Special Comment" in which he invoked Nazi Germany and suggested that blocking construction of a mosque near Ground Zero could be the first of a "thousand steps" toward another holocaust. He also suggested a moral equivalence between the Islamic Empire’s conquests and America’s expansion into the lands of Native Americans as he attempted to discredit former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s concerns about the choice of "Cordoba House" as the original name planned for the mosque as being intentionally symbolic of a Muslim victory at Ground Zero.

Almost inexplicably, Olbermann used the very famous words of Martin Niemoller to defend his argument; that argument is apparently that Muslims are the ones being persecuted, or at least in great danger of being persecuted.

"They came first for the communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. And then they came for me and by that time, no one was left to speak up."

Olbermann then reveals the premise for his bringing up Niemoller:

He witnessed persecution; he acquiesced to it. He ultimately fell victim to it. He had been a German World War I hero, then a conservative who welcomed the fall of German democracy and the rise of Hitler, and he had few qualms about the beginning of the Holocaust until he himself was arrested for supporting it insufficiently.

Niemoller’s confessional warning came first in a speech in Frankfurt in January 1946 – eight months after he had been liberated by American troops. He had been detained at Tyrol, Sachsen-hausen, and Dachau for seven years.

Two very important things lost on Olbermann are that the Muslims allied with Hitler in WWII out of mutual hatred for the Jews. If the Muslims still carry that hatred - and they do - it would necessarily be Olbermann who is in danger of being the legitimate target of his own criticism. He would be the quintessential example of who Niemoller was talking about.

Olbermann has a bad case of projection mixed with Stockholm Syndrome.
