Liberal Writer who Lost Daughter in Lockerbie Bombing Slams Obama

When Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988 one of the 259 deaths was that of Theodora Cohen. She was the son of a very liberal writer named Richard Cohen, who went to great lengths to get the vote out for Obama in 2008. Seeing Gadhafi brought to justice is something Cohen has wanted desperately for more than 20 years.

Via Investors Business Daily with big h/t to American Thinker:
In calling for the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya, various American politicians and others have mixed their historical metaphors to make their point. They cite America's refusal to stop the genocide in Rwanda and our tardy response to the slaughter of civilians in the Balkans.

However, Libya is — or has been — different. This is a civil war of some kind — the people vs. the government. No genocide has been ordered and no genocide has yet been carried out. Libya is not Rwanda. Libya is not the Balkans.

But it could be. And to preclude that possibility it would be productive if the Obama administration got its marbles out of its mouth. Its pronouncements thus far have been all over the lot: Gadhafi must go ... but not if he really doesn't want to.
Whether he is conscious of it or not, Cohen pumps up Reagan and slams Obama for the very same reasons conservatives do both. Obama is weak and Reagan was not.
It remains urgent to get Gadhafi's attention and let him know that the U.S. will not permit him to slaughter his opponents as Saddam did the Shiites and Kurds — to the everlasting shame of the inert George H.W. Bush.

Obama and Gadhafi are a mismatch. The president is a thinker; Gadhafi is a killer. Unless Obama and the West do something, there's a bloodbath coming. Just ask the Cohens. Gadhafi killed their daughter.
As American Thinker rightfully points out, a liberal only seems to ultimately discover these truths when they have skin in the game.

Another aspect to the Libyan crisis that many on both the left and the right seem to be overlooking is that regardless of how bad Gadhafi is, the alternative to him would likely be far worse.

Anyway, read it all.

UPDATE: The poster below may be correct. A similar comment was posted by one of the American Thinker posters. If Thier is incorrect about this very important claim, which is inherent to his argument, it is a major oversight. I have submitted an inquiry to American Thinker in an effort to clarify. Thanks to AJTerra10 for bringing this forward. Stay tuned.

OUTRAGE: LOCKERBIE BOMBER'S FAMILY SUING SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT

You've really got to wonder when western civilization will have had enough. We are beyond simply being poked repeatedly in the chest. We are standing down as we get kicked, smacked, slapped, spit on, beaten, mugged, whacked, paddled, etc. etc. This story provides even further proof. In 1988, Lockerbie bomber Abdulbaset Ali al-Megrahi blew up an airliner full of innocent passengers and killed 270 people.

He was sentenced to life in prison but was released last year because he had an alleged terminal illness and was expected to die soon. Not only is the dirtbag still alive but his family is suing the Scottish government for al-Megrahi's treatment while in prison.

Via the Scotsman:
COLONEL Gaddafi has revealed that the family of Lockerbie bomber Abdulbaset Ali al-Megrahi is preparing a compensation claim over "neglect" in his Scottish prison cell.

The compensation claim was branded "offensive" by MSPs last night as the Scottish Government defended its care of the bomber, who was released on compassionate grounds by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill due to advanced prostate cancer.

However, he remains alive more than a year after his release, following intensive therapy in his homeland.

The Libyan dictator said last night: "He was released because he was considered dead, and yet he is still alive.

"His health was not looked after during his time in prison. He didn't have any periodic examination. After he passes away his family will demand compensation because he was deliberately neglected in prison."
There is a perfect example why international law should not trump nationalism. Western civilization gets what it deserves if it continues taking garbage like this.

YAWN: ANOTHER OBAMA LIE - RELEASE OF LOCKERBIE BOMBER

This time it has to do with what the White House knew about the release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, convicted of the Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland. When al-Megrahi was released in August of 2009, it was under the pretense that he was sick with cancer and wouldn't be alive today. Since then, doctors have conceded that he might live for another ten years or more. At the time, the Obama White House was indignant over his release, saying it was a 'mistake'.

Via the London Telegraph then:
The US government condemned the decision to release him, as did US relatives of some of the victims of the 1988 atrocity.

One US Senator said that by releasing Megrahi, Scottish ministers had increased the threat of international terrorism, and internet campaigners threatened a US boycott of Scottish products.

Mr Obama said: "We have been in contact with the Scottish government, indicating that we objected to this, and we thought it was a mistake."
Now the Australian is reporting that the Obama administration supported the decision to release the Lockerbie bomber over sending him to a Libyan prison:
Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.

The intervention, which has angered US relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.

The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama's claim last week that all Americans were "surprised, disappointed and angry" to learn of Megrahi's release.
Translation: Joe Wilson is right again.

VIDEO: SOMEBODY IS LYING ABOUT LOCKERBIE BOMBER

More fallout from the Daily Mail story that came out this weekend. They reported that British officials struck back at the Obama administration, saying that the outrage displayed over the release of the Lockerbie Pan Am bomber by the likes of Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of State Clinton was 'disingenuous'.

Someone is lying and I never bet against Hillary Clinton if she's involved.

The DAILY MAIL reports that British officials are accusing the Obama administration of manufacturing outrage in response to real outrage and believes they are being thrown under the bus as a result (This White House? Nawww).

Keeping the Mail's report in mind, take a look at both Eric 'America is a nation of cowards' Holder and Hillary Clinton feign righteous indignation after it became public that Abdelbaset Al Megrahi would be released.

I reported on this story EARLIER.

OBAMA HAS A LOCKERBIE PROBLEM

The London Daily Mail has revealed some disturbing allegations from the British government on what Obama knew about the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al Megrahi. We may be face to face with an example of why Obama's tendency to distance himself from hard core decision making is possible as a legislator but far more difficult as an executive.

Here is the statement released by the White House on August 20th about Megrahi's release:
"The United States deeply regrets the decision by the Scottish Executive to release Abdel Basset Mohamed al-Megrahi. Megrahi was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which blew up over Scotland on December 21, 1988.

"As we have expressed repeatedly to officials of the government of the United Kingdom and to Scottish authorities, we continue to believe that Megrahi should serve out his sentence in Scotland. On this day, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families who live every day with the loss of their loved ones. We recognize the effects of such a loss weigh upon a family forever."
As you can see, that statement serves the distancing function but when you occupy a position where the buck is supposed to stop, there are usually other implications to consider.

Sure enough, the UK is speaking up about what they claim both Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knew in the run up to Megrahi's release. The DAILY MAIL reports:

British officials claim Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton were kept informed at all stages of discussions concerning Megrahi’s return.

The officials say the Americans spoke out because they were taken aback by the row over Megrahi’s release, not because they did not know it was about to happen.

‘The US was kept fully in touch about everything that was going on with regard to Britain’s discussions with Libya in recent years and about Megrahi,’ said the Whitehall aide.

‘We would never do anything about Lockerbie without discussing it with the US. It is disingenuous of them to act as though Megrahi’s return was out of the blue.
Disingenuous, huh? When will people start listening to us conservatives?

Not to bring up something only tangentially related but in light of this latest revelation, I wonder if more will be coming out about MICHAEL SAVAGE being banned from Britain. On more than one occasion, he has intimated his conerns that his banning may have connections with the United States government. If that is true, how much do you think the sitting UK government is going to sit back and take?

The Obama administration has slapped them in the face a few times, to include the returning of the WINSTON CHURCHILL BUST that had been loaned to the White House after 9/11.
