Scientists: Shroud of Turin Created with Ultraviolet Light

Well, well, well. Scientists are reportedly coming down on the side of the Shroud of Turin being created by a technology not available at the time of the Shroud's creation.

Via Yahoo News:
The exact origins of the Turin Shroud remain a great mystery, but scientists are now disputing the long-held belief that the religious artifact is a medieval forgery.

Italian researchers at the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development say they believe the image was created by an ultraviolet "flash of light." However, if that theory is true, it remains a mystery as to exactly how that technology could have been implemented at the time of the Shroud's creation. While the technology is readily available in present day, it was far beyond the means of anyone around pre-20th Century.

The Turin Shroud is said to be the burial cloth of Jesus, but has long been believed to be a fake, created during medieval times. It is currently kept in a climate-controlled case in Turin cathedral. Scientists at the Italian agency have reportedly spent years attempting to recreate the Shroud's imagery. 'The results show a short and intense burst of UV directional radiation can colour a linen cloth so as to reproduce many of the peculiar characteristics of the body image on the Shroud of Turin,' the scientists said.

"When one talks about a flash of light being able to color a piece of linen in the same way as the shroud, discussion inevitably touches on things such as miracles," said Professor Paolo Di Lazzaro, who led the study. "But as scientists, we were concerned only with verifiable scientific processes. We hope our results can open up a philosophical and theological debate."
The article closes with the following claim:
Believers in the Shroud say it contains the image of a man with nail wounds to the wrist and feet. Still, skeptics of the Shroud's authenticity are unlikely to be swayed. There has been substantial evidence working against it, including a 1988 radiocarbon test conducted at the University of Oxford, which dated the cloth to a time between 1260 and 1390.
What Mr. Pfeiffer at Yahoo fails to mention is that the Carbon dating performed on the Shroud was from a portion that came from a section that had been replaced after a fire that damaged it at about the time that section was dated back to and not the original cloth.

VIDEO: NOAH'S ARK DISCOVERED

Perhaps non-believers are getting yet another nudge to re-think their position. On the heels of a History Channel documentary that revealed the face of Yaushua, son of Yahweh, researchers are closer to identifying Noah's Ark.

First, the Real Face of Jesus. Now this via the U.K. Sun:
A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say they have found wooden remains on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

They claim carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old — around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.
The discoveries from the History Channel documentary on the Shroud were said to equate to a "DNA match". Now we read this one month later:
Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team, said: "It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it."
Is this another DNA match? If so, what would two DNA matches equate to if both are tied back to the Word of God?

VIDEO: HISTORY CHANNEL'S FACE OF JESUS?

On March 30th, the History Channel aired, "The Real Face of Jesus" which focused on the renowned linen cloth known as the Shroud of Turin. In 1898, it was photographed for the first time and the Italian photographer named Secondo Pia. When he produced a negative of the Shroud, the image became much more clear.

In the 1930's, photography was further advanced and new pictures were taken, making the Shroud look even better. Now we have 3D technology, which was used in the production of this documentary. The researchers did a phenomenal job of pulling the existent three dimensional image from a two dimensional cloth. The experiment not only provided further clarity but allowed the researchers to recreate the face that is seen in the Shroud.

As seen on The History Channel

I also had the opportunity to interview a man named Robert K. Wilcox on March 28th about the Shroud. Wilcox has been researching it for over 30 years and has written a book titled, "The Truth About the Shroud of Turin: Solving the Mystery". He does an excellent job of providing additional insights not seen in the documentary. You can hear that interview by clicking here.

VIDEO: REAL FACE OF JESUS - SHROUD OF TURIN

**VIDEO BELOW COMES WITH SPOILER ALERT** This documentary first aired on the History channel on March 30th. I made a point to watch it. I was skeptical of how this network would portray the Shroud but was not only pleasantly surprised in that regard but my expectations were blown away. Using the modern technology of 3D computer software, the researchers discovered that within the two dimensional linen exists a three dimensional image.

Throughout the documentary, the suspense builds as you know the ending will contain the actual face of the Son of Yahweh. If you plan on watching the 2nd or 3rd airing of the program on Saturday, April 3rd at 8pm EST or Sunday April 4th at 5pm EST, consider yourself warned about the one minute clip below that shows the transformation. That said, one thing I will divulge - and this was an incredibly powerful moment - is that the expression of the head researcher on this project, Ray Downing, appeared to be captured as he watched the fruits of his labor for the first time - as the actual Face on the Shroud comes to life.

However, I personally found the most awe-inspiring part of the documentary to involve something other than the very climactic ending. Without giving it away, I will say it involves the Gospel of John, Chapter 20, Verse 7:
7 But the burial napkin (kerchief) which had been around Jesus' head, was not lying with the other linen cloths, but was [still] [a]rolled up (wrapped round and round) in a place by itself.
If you decide to watch one of the re-airings, be sure to pay particularly close attention when this comes up. Utterly mind-blowing.
