Video: Democrat Arlen Specter tells Republican voters to re-elect Orrin Hatch

The man who had no political future in the Republican Party after he helped put the 2009 stimulus bill over the top is now encouraging Utah's Republican voters not to "cannibalize" Orrin Hatch. Yes, Arlen Specter betrayed his Party and went to one where he fit right in. So, why would a Democrat encourage Republican voters to vote for Hatch based on the premise that Hatch has the best chance to win? Doesn't make much sense, does it? Wouldn't it make more sense for Specter to encourage those voters to go with the more conservative candidate if he has less of a chance in the general?

The answer is that "D" and "R" are both supposed to fall under the "E" (Establishment) umbrella. This clip should be an instant campaign ad for Hatch opponent Dan Liljenquist.

The only thing that could have made this worse is if stimulus dollars were actually sent to Korea to fund Korean businesses and workers. In this case, the dollars stayed here but were used to fund foreign companies and workers on American soil. If there's anything positive to glean from this CBS News segment by Sharyl Attkisson, it's that unions affected by the move are exposed to one of the many things wrong with the Obama administration.

The spokesman for one of the unions impacted by all of this, Mark Mangione, is representing some very angry members, many of whom likely voted for Obama.

White House Emails show Concerns Solyndra Would Harm 2012 Election Prospects

Isn't it amazing how virtually every single promise made by the Obama administration has failed to come to fruition, yet ominous predictions made inside the administration seem to be spot on when it comes to the Solyndra scandal. Emails apparently show that in addition to severe concern that Solyndra would be a failed enterprise, the timing of its failure would start to happen as the 2012 election season would be kicking into gear.

WASHINGTON - White House officials discussed the political ramifications of a possible default by a troubled solar energy company that received more than $500 million in federal loans, newly released emails show.

Emails released Thursday night show the Obama administration privately worried about the effect of a default by Solyndra Inc. on the president's re-election campaign.

"The optics of a Solyndra default will be bad," an official from the Office of Management and Budget wrote in a Jan. 31 email to a senior OMB official. "The timing will likely coincide with the 2012 campaign season heating up."

That message has turned out to be a fairly accurate prophecy of Solyndra's failure haunting President Obama's 2012 campaign, even before the end of 2011.

In remarks on the Senate floor Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., argued that Solyndra's bankruptcy this month was just another reason to fight against the president's jobs plan, reports CBSNews.com's Lucy Madison.

"This place was supposed to be the poster child of how the original stimulus would create jobs. Now it's bankrupt and most of its 1,100 employees are out of work," McConnell said.

Remember, the Stimulus bill amounted to $787 billion. Solyndra's woes account for $500 million of that stimulus package, which is only about 6% of the entire stimulus. As Solyndra-gate continues to heat up, there is another question that needs to be asked and that is: How many Solyndras are out there?

Something tells me there are several more and that Jay Carney will not continue to issue absurd denials like this very much longer.

Ruh Roh: How much do Solyndra and the Chevy Volt have in Common?

I must admit, I'm more than mildly surprised by how quickly the Solyndra scandal that seems to be entrapping the White House is catching fire. Perhaps because it strikes at the heart of what awakened the Tea Party in early 2009 - the stimulus bill. We are now seeing the bitter fruit from that monstrosity. A much bigger problem could be the very likely possibility that what happened at Solyndra is going to happen elsewhere. The Chevy Volt may just be the next gleaming pile of excrement.

The story of bankrupt solar company, Solyndra, has turned into a major scandal for the Obama Administration as questions arise about the government's free spending of taxpayer money on failing so-called green initiatives. A $535 million federal loan was initially rushed through for the company as Obama touted Solyndra as being a prime example of how the bold new green-energy driven economy would create jobs while saving the environment. Now the results bring into question how dangerous the green economy strategy may be.

1,100 jobs were created at Solyndra at a cost to taxpayers of about half a million dollars per job. Both the jobs and the money are now gone. White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, dismissed the failure by pointing out that there are no guarantees in the business world. Well here's a novel thought; ventures that are getting taxpayer money poured into them should actually be able to make a profit and eventually stand on their own. Dumping billions of taxpayer dollars into money losing green ideas like Solyndra, as well as on the dismally selling Chevy Volt, does nothing to help the economy or the environment.

A recent Reuters' article [1] points out that the auto industry is relying on fleets to support sales of plug-in vehicles like the Chevy Volt. In a nutshell, this means that government agencies (along with cronies at GE) will use taxpayer funds to purchase Chevy Volts that have been widely rejected by retail consumers. All to support a vehicle that was developed using billions of dollars of that same taxpayer money. Not even the most naïve, green energy supporting apologist for the Volt can legitimately debate that the car is not profitable for General Motors. Former car czar, Steven Rattner, admitted that the vehicle had "commercial clay feet" and would not be profitable for GM in the foreseeable future. Yet this is not stopping the continued wastefulness of our government's taxpayer subsidized support for the vehicle as well as for a future Cadillac version of the car.

The author goes on to point out that the taxpayer dollars wasted at Solyndra pale in comparison to those wasted on the Chevy Volt and wonders why there isn't far more outrage about the money pit that is the latter as opposed to the former. Though he doesn't go here, the political climate that is forming right now, in the wake of the recent NY 9 election that saw Anthony Weiner's old seat go Republican, may just get us there.

Project Gunrunner Funded by Stimulus Funds

It's now coming out that tens of millions of dollars from the Stimulus Bill went toward ATF's Project Gunrunner beginning in early 2009. Operation Fast and Furious was subsequently born and thousands of guns were allowed to 'walk' into Mexico. One Border Patrol agent and one ICE agent are dead as a result of that operation in general and specifically, guns given to drug cartels in particular. This is important for many reasons but one is that on May 3rd, while testifying at a Senate Judiciary committee hearing, Attorney General Eric Holder said the first time he'd heard of Fast and Furious was a 'few weeks' earlier. Since he testified two months earlier on the subject, we will extend him the courtesy of allowing a 'few weeks' to equal eight weeks.

Again, here is the exchange between Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Holder from May 3rd. The relevant portion to this post comes very early:



That was Eric Holder in sworn testimony, where lie = perjury. In that context, take a look at this article from Investors Business Daily, h/t Sipsey Street:

The ATF's gun-running disaster was funded in the stimulus bill. Think about all the criminal and drug cartel jobs saved or created. And our attorney general once bragged to a Mexican audience about implementing it.

This could be, no pun intended, the proverbial smoking gun in a growing administration scandal that deserves as much mainstream media attention as Iran-Contra or Watergate.

Right there in the stimulus bill that no one in Congress bothered to read is $10 million for Project Gunrunner (aka Operation Fast and Furious), which resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and increased drug cartel violence.

Right there in the "shovel ready" stimulus, no black humor intended, is a provision for $40 million for "state and local law enforcement assistance" along our border with Mexico and in high drug-trafficking areas, "of which $10 million shall be transferred to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, salaries and expenses for the ATF Project Gunrunner."

Attorney General Eric Holder's "I know nothing" imitation of TV's Sgt. Schultz has evaporated with the discovery of an April 2, 2009, speech to authorities in Cuernavaca, Mexico, in which he took Gunrunner credit for himself and the rest of the Obama administration.

Holder told the audience: "Last week, our administration launched a major new effort to break the backs of the cartels. My department is committing 100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement our ongoing Project Gunrunner. DEA is adding 16 new positions on the border, as well as mobile enforcement teams, and the FBI is creating a new intelligence group focusing on kidnapping and extortion."

So which administration official put the Gunrunner money in the stimulus? Which congressman insisted on this deadliest of earmarks?

That last part is bolded for a reason. Whoever earmarked this money for ATF should either express outrage or demonstrates complicity with their silence at this point.

Eric Holder bragged about Project Gunrunner in 2009 while in Mexico, one year and eleven months prior to the generous application of a 'few weeks' equalling 'eight weeks.' Project Gunrunner was a program that operated under the auspices of being a gun interdiction effort; Fast and Furious was its nefarious offspring. While this video from then Deputy Attorney General David Ogden just a 'few days' prior to Holder's speech in Mexico does not show that Holder knew about Fast and Furious, it does get us a whole lot closer because it shows that Holder knew about the shot in the arm given to Project Gunrunner. If Holder knew about Fast and Furious as early as March, 2009 he would have difficulty applying the 'few weeks' argument to when he first heard about it. By my calculations, we'd be looking at approximately 100 weeks. Even Holder would have a tough time calling that 'a few.'



Perhaps a much larger issue is what the rest of the $787 Billion Stimulus Bill includes. If a mere tens of millions went to Project Gunrunner, what did all the rest of the money really go to?

Was the term 'shovel-ready' actually meant to be a sick, twisted and macabre effort?

Too early to tell but Americans should be choking on the irony, nonetheless.

VIDEO: VAN JONES ON GIVING STIMULUS DOLLARS TO BLACK PANTHERS

Remember that $787 Billion stimulus bill in 2009? Van Jones was responsible for distributing $40 Billion of it. On December 20th, he discussed how he (re-) distributed it to inner city minorities. I like the part about making sure that the 'work and the wealth' are easily distributed.' Also making appearance in this clip is New Black Panther Party (NBPP) leader Malik Zulu Shabazz, who discusses how his group has 'Green jobs' available and no background checks are necessary.

Shabazz exhibits in-your-face racism when he talks about having 'jobs for black men' and bemoans just having to 'deal with white folks.'

The left is apparently ok with racism as long as it comes from the right source.

VIDEO: NYT REPORTER ADMITS OBAMA KNEW NO 'SHOVEL-READY' PROJECTS EXISTED

Much was made this week about the Sunday New York Times magazine article by Peter Baker in which Obama admitted that he knew there were no 'shovel-ready' projects that stimulus dollars could fund, even though that was the whole point of the stimulus package. Perhaps as equally troubling as that admission is an admission from New York Times' resident Conservative in Name Only (CONINO) David Brooks, who said Obama admitted the same thing to him a year ago.

Brooks, while appearing on PBS' News Hour with Jim Lehrer claims that it was "obvious" there were no shovel-ready projects but said he didn't report on it because Obama wouldn't tell him on the record. The least he could have done was taken a position that opposed the stimulus if that claim is true.

MARK SHIELDS: How would you like to be a Democratic member of the House fighting for your life right now, getting hit over the head for having voted for the stimulus bill, and have the president say in The New York Times Sunday magazine, there’s no such thing as a shovel-ready project?

DAVID BROOKS: Yes. Well, I shouldn’t have confessed this. He said this to me off the record about a year ago. But it hasn’t…

JIM LEHRER: Off the record? So, then you can’t talk about it.

DAVID BROOKS: Yes, because Peter Baker is a better than I am, because I couldn’t get him to go on the record with that thing.

JIM LEHRER: He said this to you a year ago?

DAVID BROOKS: It was obvious. I mean, you are trying to build a stimulus package. And when they were trying to build it, believe me, they would have loved to have filled it with infrastructure jobs. But the projects just didn’t exist. They couldn’t do it. They couldn’t find them.

Let there be zero doubt that David Brooks is a liberal in conservative clothing. Fast forward to the 10:00 mark to watch this exchange between Lehrer, Brooks, and Mark Shields.

OBAMA GAVE GENERAL ELECTRIC MILLIONS OF STIMULUS DOLLARS

Remember that $787 Billion stimulus bill in early 2009 that was supposed to jump-start the economy? Did you ever find yourself wondering where it all went? Well, you can at least put your mind at ease about $24.9 Million of it. It ended up safe and secure, in the hands of General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, who was also on Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Well, if the stimulus was about creating jobs and GE received nearly $25 Million, surely they experienced growth, right?

Uh, not so much. CNSNews reported that GE actually LOST 18,000 jobs:

(CNSNews.com) - The Obama administration gave corporate giant General Electric—the parent company of NBC--$24.9 million in grants from the $787-billion economic “stimulus” law President Barack Obama signed in February 2009, according to records posted by the administration at Recovery.gov.

Despite getting $24.9 million from U.S. taxpayers, GE decreased its U.S.-based employees by 18,000 in 2009, according to the company’s 2009 annual report.

I know Obama's approval rating continues to drop but the fact that he has any supporters at all is truly an amazing phenomenon. Even more amazing is that an average of 25% of Americans still Strongly Approve of his performance.

It would seem to me that there is no defense for this one on the part of team Obama. You'll remember that one of their favorite word games includes the phrase, "jobs created or saved." The logic was that had the stimulus not been passed, many more jobs would have been lost. Ok, so how can this administration explain $25 Million going directly to General Electric, who then proceeded to slash 18,000 jobs?

Clearer evidence that the stimulus DESTROYED jobs you will not find.

VIDEO: ED SCHULTZ PREDICTIONS ON STIMULUS

I found this exchange while looking for the latest Ben Nelson ad. It was posted shortly after the Stimulus package was signed into law back in February. Larry King has both Ben Stein and Ed Schultz on his program to talk about what needs to be done to rejuvenate the ailing economy.

Far left progressive Schultz is shamed with his own words more than once in hindsight. In part 1, go to the 1:15 and 3:15 marks. At 3:45, he says, "This plan (stimulus) is going to work. It's just a matter of time."

Time's up, Ed.



In part 2, fast forward to the 1:19 mark as Ed says Obama isn't for bailouts and doesn't want to do this. And lastly, the 2:10 mark offers a gem too. Schultz, in defending stimulus, alludes to the need for health care reform. You'd think that after he was proven wrong on the Stimulus, he might have less credibility or even re-examine his paradigms. But alas, full steam ahead with healthcare these days, right Ed?

2008 HILLARY POLLSTER GETS STIMULUS MONEY

For those who thought Hillary would have been better than Barack, may I suggest she simply would have been more cunning as she's known how Washington, D.C. works better than Obama did. Both Hillary and Barack revered Saul Alinsky, both hail from Chicago, and both apparently enjoy the Chicago way.

Mark Penn, Hillary's 2008 pollster heads two businesses that received nearly $6 million of the $787 Billion stimulus bill according to THE HILL.

Nearly $6 million in stimulus money was paid to two firms run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton’s pollster in 2008.

Federal records show that $5.97 million from the $787 billion stimulus helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.

Sounds "Shovel-ready" to me.

Yes, Barack Obama used to work for this organization, represented it as an attorney, has their support, and his stimulus bill has billions of dollars going to it.

Priceless. House Republicans presented a United Front on the House floor by individually asking Obama where the jobs are that he promised via the stimulus. Adding additional credibility to this tack is the fact that House Republicans unanimously opposed the stimulus bill and all but three Senate Republicans did (Snowe, Collins, and Specter).

Arlen Specter, at the time a RINO, has since decided to unmask himself and defect to the Democrats while in the race of his life in 2010 for his senate seat in the heavily blue state of Pennsylvania.

Two REALLY FROZEN Hams

UPDATE: We have an update on HAM-GATE. Obviously the wording of the invoice was so over-the-top that Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack felt he had to clarify. His statement all but conceded that the wording of the invoice was poor. He reached out to the Drudge report to clear away the mayo

The references to "2 pound frozen ham sliced" are to the sizes of the packaging. Press reports suggesting that the Recovery Act spent $1.191 million to buy "2 pounds of ham" are wrong. In fact, the contract in question purchased 760,000 pounds of ham for $1.191 million, at a cost of approximately $1.50 per pound.

Gateway Pundit provides a link to Food Lion which sells sliced ham for $.79.

Note: if you can't see the price per pound on the Food Lion site, it mysteriously vanished after a link to it was posted on Drudge.

Yes, that's a difference of $.71 / lb. That Government machine is SO efficient, isn't it?

How much do you think it costs to slice two frozen hams? Before you answer, imagine them as frozen as they could possibly be. So frozen that if we catapulted them toward the sun, the earth would actually begin cooling not just because two of the most dangerously frozen hams would no longer be among us but because they'd cause the sun itself to cool. We're talkin' hams so frozen, you'd get frostbite just looking at them.

Have no fear, the Obama government took care of it and guess what? They were able to complete the daunting task of slicing two severely frozen hams in just over two months and just shy of $1.2 Million!
