In Washington, D.C. on April 28th, Ramadan will be speaking at a Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy (CSID) event in which other members of the Muslim Brotherhood are scheduled to speak as well. Listed as "invited" to give the concluding keynote speech is none other than John Kerry, which I wrote about here.
Back to Tariq Ramadan. It has now been learned that the grandson of Al-Banna will be the keynote speaker at an event sponsored by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Chicago on April 10th. The evidence that CAIR is nothing more than a front group for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood is far too overwhelming to entertain the opposite notion. Now this.
Why would a group claiming to be a peaceful civil rights group operating on behalf of a peaceful view of Islam invite a speaker who represents a group whose leaders have much in common with Adolf Hitler? In fact, one of its early leaders, Hajj Al-Amin Al-Husseini was a close personal friend of both Ramadan's grandfather and Adolf Hitler.
It should be quite obvious that CAIR is in the process of unmasking itself. The good news is that the sooner they do, the sooner those who believe they're a peaceful organization will know the truth. Here is an excerpt of the Press Release on CAIR Chicago's website:
CAIR-Chicago is pleased to announce that Professor Tariq Ramadan will be the keynote speaker at its 6th Annual Banquet on April 10, 2010. The appearance of Professor Ramadan will be a milestone for the American Muslim community since he was banned from visiting the United States almost six years ago. Late last month Secretary of State Hilary Clinton signed an order revoking Professor Ramadan’s visa ban. Also reporting on Ramadan's appearance at the April 10th CAIR event is the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report. Quoting GMBDR:
In 2004, Ramadan, a Swiss citizen who is currently a professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University had been offered a tenured teaching position at the University of Notre Dame when the Bush administration revoked his visa citing unsubstantiated ties to terrorism and minor charitable contributions made by Professor Ramadan as reason for the visa revocation.
His (Ramadan's) statements and writings have been extensively analyzed and he has been accused by critics of promoting anti-Semitism and fundamentalism, albeit by subtle means.Subtle means? Sounds like he's right up CAIR's alley. Along those lines, Ramadan's bio that appears on the CAIR Chicago website has a link to a recent column written by Ramadan called, "Good Muslim, Bad Muslim". It should be quite apparent after reading his first two paragraphs that Ramadan has little respect for the prevailing western view of what a "moderate" Muslim is:
The dust from the collapse of the twin towers had hardly settled on 11 September 2001 when the febrile search began for "moderate Muslims", people who would provide answers, who would distance themselves from this outrage and condemn the violent acts of "Muslim extremists", "Islamic fundamentalists" and "Islamists". Two distinct categories of Muslim rapidly emerged: the "good" and the "bad"; the "moderates", "liberals" and "secularists" versus the "fundamentalists", the "extremists" and the "Islamists".It would seem Ramadan is advocating a position that denigrates Muslims who attempt to help in the fight against Islamic terrorism. This goes against everything that CAIR claims it was created to support. Again, why would such a group have a person like Ramadan give a keynote speech? The answer should be obvious. CAIR was created to deceive. It was an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism financing trial in the history of the United States - a trial in which the defendants were convicted on all 108 counts. Additionally, CAIR's founders belonged to a Muslim Brotherhood group. Documents about The Holy Land Foundation Trial serve as possibly the greatest repository for evidence that groups like CAIR, the Isalmic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Student's Association (MSA), and many others not only have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas but are one in the same.
This categorisation was not new. Literature produced during the colonial era, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, especially by orientalist scholars in Britain and France, depicted Muslims in the same binary manner. "Good" Muslims were those who either collaborated with the colonial enterprise or accepted the values and customs of the dominant power. The rest, the "bad" Muslims, those who "resisted" religiously, culturally or politically, were systematically denigrated, dismissed as the "other" and repressed as a "danger". Times have changed, but the old mindsets and simplistic portrayals continue to cast a shadow over today's intellectual, political and media debate about Islam. One reason why so many Muslim thinkers, activists and reformers today try to avoid the label of "moderate" is the perception of having sold out on their religion to the west and its suffocating terminology.
The alliance and common thinking that exists between Ramadan and CAIR can also be seen in CAIR's constant willingness to defend those accused of Islamic terror. Keep Ramadan's expressed thoughts about "moderate" Muslims in mind as you read this excerpt from GMBDR:
Hamas infrastructure and CAIR and its leaders have a long history of defending almost all individuals accused of terrorism by the U.S. government, frequently calling such prosecutions a “war on Islam.” A recent post discussed the deportation of a former CAIR national board member with links to the now defunct Holy Land Foundation whose leaders were convicted of financing Hamas. That reality would fit quite well with Ramadan's apparent belief that the term "moderate" when applied to Muslims actually refers to those who collaborate "with the colonial enterprise or accepted the values and customs of the dominant power."
More incredibly indicting evidence comes courtesy of documents retrieved in an undercover operation inside CAIR offices in which 12,000 pages were recovered when the son of the author of Muslim Mafia posed as an intern and was able to secretly remove them.
