In light of the ATF / DOJ Gunwalking scandal, the attempts by U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) to identify drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) will only serve to underscore how bad or corrupt the decision was to allow guns to 'walk' into Mexico. Even more interesting is the fact that McCaul's proposed legislation would necessarily involve Secretary of State Hillary Clinton because it would require her to be the one to identify cartels as such.
That's a potential issue for her because Rep. Darrell Issa has already sent her a letter to Hillary asking for her to turnover any documents relative to a meeting in Mexico city between US Ambassador to Mexico and an Asst Attorney General. It's believe that the meeting involved discussions about Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious, the ATF program that allows guns to 'walk' into Mexico.
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) introduced legislation on Wednesday that would direct Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to designate Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) – a designation that would put them on the same list as al Qaeda, the Taliban and Hezbollah.
The designation by the State Department also would make the named cartels subject to the same sanctions as other terrorist organizations, including the freezing of the cartels’ monetary assets and the criminal prosecution of those that provide “material support or resources” to an FTO.
“Cartels kidnap, kill, and mutilate innocent civilians, elected officials and law enforcement, using gruesome tactics to intimidate government officials and citizens to abide by their rules,” said McCaul, chairman of the Homeland Security Oversight, Investigations and Management Subcommittee, which held a hearing on the cartels on Thursday.
Hard to say if McCaul's bill is meant to put more pressure on Hillary and the Obama administration about its stonewalling with regard to Project Gunrunner but it may have just that effect. If a Secretary of State not only refuses to identify as terrorists those who congress mandates as such but stonewalls efforts to uncover the administration's involvement in arming such groups, it's likely to only compound her problems.
The Egyptian uprising seems to be the forgotten revolution on the part of those who helped to support it - except for those that are living it. The uprising was cheered by the liberal media as something magnificent. A brutal dictator named Hosni Mubarak was ousted and Democracy would rule the day. The radical left in America championed the movement as well. Perhaps that's why they've decided to move on and support similar destruction elsewhere, which only opens the door for the Muslim Brotherhood. Lost on all of them, apparently, is the consequences of their own actions.
CNN reports (but fails to see its own complicity through inaccurate reporting in the first place):
Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Cairo's famous Tahrir Square on Friday, as part of an effort by liberal activists to revive their movement after a series of perceived political set-backs.
Dubbed the "Friday to Save the Revolution," the rally is an effort to show opposition to a recent proposed law which would criminalize protests. It is also an effort to re-assert the youth movement which drove former president Hosni Mubarak from power.
Many liberal activists fear they have been side-lined since Mubarak's February 11 overthrow by Egypt's ruling military council and by more politically-experienced Islamist groups, well disciplined after operating for decades in secret while facing harsh persecution.
"We want to ensure that our revolution is not stolen from us," announced a flier published by the Youth Coalition, one of the more prominent associations that emerged from the revolution.
It gets worse for the socialist uptopians who thought they could fill the void left by Mubarak. Thousands of Islamists are expected to descend on Egypt from other parts of the world to help consolidate the Muslim Brotherhood's power.
A lawyer who works with various Islamist groups has predicted that 3,000 leading figures of the Jama'a al-Islamyia and Egyptian Islamic Jihad groups will return to Egypt in a few days, as their names have been dropped from the "wanted" list maintained by Egyptian security forces.
"They are coming back from Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Somalia, Kenya, Iran and London," said Ibrahim Ali.
I seem to remember many of us on the right warning of this very thing and the Liberal media just kept on perpetuating the lie. They don't show any signs of learning their lesson either. Those of us who saw the writing on the wall in Egypt see the same thing in Libya, Syria, Tunisia, and elsewhere. Yet, the liberal media continues to take the side of the Muslim Brotherhood, if not literally, then certainly in not reporting their true intentions while supporting the actions of the United States which only serves to further the cause of the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya.
Speaking of Libya, Hillary Clinton has admitted that we are arming the rebels there but have no idea who they are. Here is what she said via POLITICO:
“The opposition has demonstrated a ‘commitment to democracy and to a very robust engagement with people from across the spectrum of Libyans,’ but ‘we do not have any specific information about specific individuals from any organization who are part of this,’ she said.”
Got that? We are killing people — Muammar Qadhafi’s troops and possibly civilians through “collateral damage” — in order to put the rebels in power.
But “we do not have any specific information about specific individuals from any organization who are part of this,” according to our secretary of state.
No word on when those who warned about this before Mubarak was even removed, will receive a 'you were right' admission from the liberal media.
Note to Liberal Media: Perhaps it's time to conduct another interview with Google regional manager in North Africa, Wael Ghonim. He is credited with leading the revolution but was thrown under the Muslim Brotherhood bus very soon thereafter. Here is 60 Minutes's interview with him after Mubarak was removed and before the Brotherhood filled the proverbial void:
The Gainesville, FL pastor who backed out of his pledge to burn Qur'ans last September carried through on the threat last month by declaring Islam 'guilty.' He then sentenced the book to burning - all televised of course. Based on the U.S. Constitution, he had every right to do it but an extremely disturbing reality is being manufactured as a consequence. Afghani Muslims, citing the action of pastor Terry Jones, stormed the U.N. Office and began murdering people. Yet, those who committed the acts of murder are not being blamed by the liberal western media or Afghanistan leader Hamid Karzai; Terry Jones is.
At the U.S. State Department, spokesman Mark Toner said the burning of a Quran in Florida was contrary to Americans' respect for Islam and religious tolerance. "This is an isolated act done by a small group of people and ... does not reflect the respect the people of the United States have toward Islam," he said.
The church's website stated that after a five-hour trial on March 20, the Quran "was found guilty and a copy was burned inside the building." A picture on the website shows a book in flames in a small portable fire pit. The church on Friday confirmed that the Quran had been burned.
In a statement, Jones did not comment on whether the church's act had led to the deaths. Instead he said it was time to "hold Islam accountable" and called on the United States and the U.N. to hold "these countries and people accountable for what they have done as well as for any excuses they may use to promote their terrorist activities."
Last week, Afghan President Hamid Karzai issued a statement calling the burning a "crime against a religion." He denounced the U.N. attack as a "disrespectful and abhorrent act" and called on the U.S. and the United Nations to bring to justice those who burned the holy book. Karzai issued a statement late Friday calling the killings an "inhumane act" that was "against the values of Islam and Afghans." He said he planned to call officials at U.N. headquarters to express his regret and condolences from the people of Afghanistan.
So Karzai wants Jones arrested? Though he's likely just trying to keep the angry mobs from targeting him, it's still a ridiculous assertion but that's where 'creeping Sharia' will lead. Over at CNN, John King said he interviewed Terry Jones but didn't air it because Jones's words were too hateful.
On CNN's John King USA show Friday night King said he had a "lengthy interview" with Pastor Terry Jones, who has presided over burning the Quran earlier this month. But viewers will never see King's interview.
-----
People have been killed in the angry aftermath. A mob charged a U.N outpost in Afghanistan and as many as 12 were killed.
What did Jones say to that? Plenty, says King. But it was all "too hateful" to air. After long discussion within CNN, King told viewers, the interview would not be shown, even though, King says, he "pushed back hard" at Jones' anti-Islamic remarks.
Jones's decision to burn the Qur'an was clearly a stunt and an act to garner attention. The same can be said about Bill Ayers standing on a crumpled up U.S. flag. Would Ayers have been blamed if right wing extremists would have gone on a shooting rampage halfway across the world? The short answer is NO. If the media isn't careful, it's going to rally people to Jones's side in this saga. Saying it was ill-advised to burn the Qur'an is one thing. Blaming the man for other people committing murder because of it is something completely different and over the line.
Here is the video of Jones - dressed in a Judge's black robe - sentencing the Qur'an. This is what the libs are pointing to as the act that led to murder. The flipside to that argument is that the murderers proved Jones's point.
