Via Investors Business Daily with big h/t to American Thinker:
In calling for the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya, various American politicians and others have mixed their historical metaphors to make their point. They cite America's refusal to stop the genocide in Rwanda and our tardy response to the slaughter of civilians in the Balkans.Whether he is conscious of it or not, Cohen pumps up Reagan and slams Obama for the very same reasons conservatives do both. Obama is weak and Reagan was not.
However, Libya is — or has been — different. This is a civil war of some kind — the people vs. the government. No genocide has been ordered and no genocide has yet been carried out. Libya is not Rwanda. Libya is not the Balkans.
But it could be. And to preclude that possibility it would be productive if the Obama administration got its marbles out of its mouth. Its pronouncements thus far have been all over the lot: Gadhafi must go ... but not if he really doesn't want to.
It remains urgent to get Gadhafi's attention and let him know that the U.S. will not permit him to slaughter his opponents as Saddam did the Shiites and Kurds — to the everlasting shame of the inert George H.W. Bush.As American Thinker rightfully points out, a liberal only seems to ultimately discover these truths when they have skin in the game.
Obama and Gadhafi are a mismatch. The president is a thinker; Gadhafi is a killer. Unless Obama and the West do something, there's a bloodbath coming. Just ask the Cohens. Gadhafi killed their daughter.
Another aspect to the Libyan crisis that many on both the left and the right seem to be overlooking is that regardless of how bad Gadhafi is, the alternative to him would likely be far worse.
Anyway, read it all.
UPDATE: The poster below may be correct. A similar comment was posted by one of the American Thinker posters. If Thier is incorrect about this very important claim, which is inherent to his argument, it is a major oversight. I have submitted an inquiry to American Thinker in an effort to clarify. Thanks to AJTerra10 for bringing this forward. Stay tuned.

You should perhaps get your facts straight. Richard Cohen was not Theodora Cohen's father. Her parents were Daniel and Susan Cohen.
I happen to agree with Richard Cohen's article and with the imposition of a no-fly zone along with more decisive action on part of the Obama administration. However, your premise that liberals don't really understand things until they "have skin in it" is undermined by your erroneous information.
This type of misinformation to suite your purpose is typical of conservative arguments these days and it is a tradedy that you are able to get away with it!
