Video: Black Male arrested in near beating death of White Male in Alabama

Here is an update to this story about a group of black adults and children who nearly beat a white man to death near Mobile, AL. Terry Rawls, a black male with a criminal history (assault victim has one as well), was arrested for participating in the beating of Matthew Owens, who is in critical condition.

It looks like the District Attorney in the case is pressing the Feds to look into whether or not a hate crime took place. In contradiction to earlier reports, police are now saying that reports of witnesses who claim they heard members of the mob reference Trayvon Martin, are false and that the high profile Florida case had nothing to do with Owens' beating.

Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says her office met with the U.S. Attorney, FBI and the police department about the Matthew Owens beating case.

They want the feds to decide whether a hate crime was committed.

Owens was beaten by a mob of 20 people Saturday night across the street from his sister's house on Delmar Drive. Despite witnesses telling News 5 that one of the attackers said "This is justice for Trayvon" after the beating, police say the shooting of the unarmed teenager in Sanford, Florida was not the reason for this attack.

"I can tell you this without a doubt, 100% certainty, that Trayvon Martin was not the motivating factor in this incident," says Cpl. Chris Levy.

Deputy Chief Lester Hargrove says investigators believe only four people, including Terry Rawls, were directly involved. They believe the rest of the mob just watched.

Police say the beating is the result of a three year neighborhood dispute between Rawls and Owens.

As this case has unfolded, it's fair to say that Owens doesn't appear to be anywhere close to being a saint. If reports that he threatened the kids with knives are correct, the case takes on an entirely new dimension. That said, mobs are never the answer and Rawls was rightly arrested. If Owens threatened those kids, he should be arrested as well - after he recovers.

Another fact remains. The racially charged environment created, in part, by the media is not the least bit helpful. It has made people hypersensitive about cases like this one. This story likely would not have gotten the national attention it has, had it not been for what the media, Al Sharpton, et. al. have done with the Trayvon Martin case.

Video: Black Woman goes off on TV News Cameras over biased coverage

This is a follow-up to the story of a white man named Matthew Owens, who was beaten nearly to death by several blacks in a Mobile, AL neighborhood. As WKRG TV news cameras were attempting to do a story from the scene, a black female resident in the neighborhood, named Lemika Whisenhunt began yelling from behind the reporter's back, giving reasons why she thought coverage of the story was biased and in favor of Owens, who is currently in critical condition.

Whisenhunt's argument is that Owens is a racist who regularly comes out from his house swinging knives and calling black children "Ni***rs."

Uh, Lemika, even if that's true, the answer is not to get a mob together - that includes children - and beat Owens to within an inch of his life.

You'll notice at the end of that video, Whisenhunt directs the news crew to where they can find her to get her side of the story. Presumably, the video below is a follow up report because it features Whisenhunt. In it, she vehemently denies that the beating of Owens has anything to do with the Trayvon case - despite witnesses claiming they heard members of the mob refer to "justice for Trayvon. Instead, according to Whisenhunt, Owens was beaten because he "does not like black kids."

I'll say it again, Lemika. Even if you are correct, it does not justify beating a man to the point where he may not survive. That said, as you will see at the end of this news report, Owens does seem to have quite a rap sheet.

White Alabama man beaten by Black Mob

If this is what it appears to be, Al Sharpton and company - to include the media - have more blood on their hands. Matthew Owens, a white man in Mobile, AL is in critical condition after being beaten by a mob of black men. One of the assailants allegedly said something about, "justice for Trayvon" as the group walked away.

According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. They say the kids left and a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.

Police tell News 5 the suspects used chairs, pipes and paint cans to beat Owens.

Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. "It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed." Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using "brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on."

Police will only say "multiple people" are involved.

What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said "Now thats justice for Trayvon." Trayvon Martin is the unarmed teenager police say was shot and killed February 26 by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman in Samford, Florida.

The answer to why the mainstream media is not covering this is quite simple. Why would the media report on a situation it helped cause?

Shocker: Tough Alabama Immigration Law already Working

I hope Mr. Rick Perry is taking notice because what a variation of he avoided pushing through his state Legislature in a Special Session this past June, got through Alabama's Legislature (and a Federal Judge); and it's working. Schools there are seeing a Hispanic students disappearing, presumably because those students, their parents, or both are in the country illegally. Meanwhile, Rick Perry signed a Bill that granted in-state tuition to illegal aliens and declared anyone who disagreed with such a bill is without 'a heart.'

Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state’s tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration.

Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments — from small towns to large urban districts — reported a sudden exodus of children from Hispanic families, some of whom told officials they would leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students’ immigration status.

As far as I can tell, there are only two reasons why these children would be pulled out of school.

1.) Their parents have something to hide
2.) Their parents are the victims of fear-mongering from the left

In either case, the new law is already causing people to flee the state.

Local and state officials are pleading with immigrant families to keep their children enrolled. The law does not ban anyone from school, they say, and neither students nor parents will be arrested for trying to get an education.

But so far, many Spanish-speaking families aren’t waiting around to see what happens.

A school worker in Albertville — a community with a large poultry industry that employs many Hispanic workers — said Friday many families might leave town over the weekend for other states. About 22 percent of the community’s 4,200 students are Hispanic.

“I met a Hispanic mother in the hallway at our community learning center this morning, where enrollment and withdrawal happens. She looked at me with tears in her eyes. I asked, ‘Are you leaving?‘ She said ’Yes,’ and hugged me, crying,” said the worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not an authorized spokeswoman.

I'm sorry but I have an extremely hard time believing that this new law would cause LEGAL residents in the US to flee the state.

Then again, they can always head over to Texas. We've got in-state college tuition available for them.

Breaking: Illegal Aliens to Flee Alabama in Droves

The good news is that Alabama can now implement the most important parts of its tough immigration law. The bad news is it's not a border state. Last year, Arizona passed SB 1070, only to have the toughest aspects of its immigration law struck down by a federal judge. In Texas, a tough sanctuary cities bill died in the legislature, in part, because two wealthy businessmen - grocery store magnate Charles Butt and developer Bob Perry - threatened to withhold campaign contributions to the Republican Party. Alabama passed what should have been passed in Texas and US District Judge Sharon Blackburn did what US District Judge Susan Bolton should have done relative to Arizona's law; she allowed the key parts to remain in effect.

A federal judge gave a green light for Alabama to enforce some of the most controversial parts of its toughest-in-the-nation immigration law, ruling that certain measures do not violate federal law.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn ruled that Alabama can enforce the law’s requirements for schools to verify students’ immigration status and for police to determine citizenship and status of those they stop, detain or arrest. Police are allowed to arrest anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant during a routine traffic stop, under the law.

In a 115-page opinion, Blackburn wrote that “the United States has not met the requirements for a preliminary injunction” for several of the measures the Justice Department had argued violated the Constitution and usurped the federal government’s authority to set immigration policy.

But Blackburn granted the Obama administration’s request to block certain portions of the law until she makes a final ruling. Those sections include provisions making it a crime to transport or harbor an illegal immigrant, or for an illegal immigrant to look for or perform work. Blackburn also blocked parts of the law that would allow discrimination lawsuits against companies that hire illegal immigrants when they discharge or fail to hire a U.S. citizen and forbid employers from claiming as business tax deductions wages paid to illegal immigrants.

Once again, the Obama administration comes down on the side of defending illegal behavior. In the minds of Eric Holder's Justice Department, it's apparently not a crime to harbor an illegal alien. Uh, Mr. Holder, it's called being an accomplice.

All things being equal, this is good news.

ALABAMA REP JUMPS SHIP, BECOMES REPUBLICAN

Too early to call this a trend but a 46% strong disapproval number for Obama, this health care monstrosity about to pass despite the will of the people, and now an Alabama Democrat turning Republican, it'd be a good start. POLTICO has the story:

POLITICO has learned that Rep. Parker Griffith, a freshman Democrat from Alabama, will announce today that he’s switching parties to become a Republican.

According to two senior GOP aides familiar with the decision, the announcement will take place this afternoon in Griffith's district in northern Alabama.

Griffith’s party switch comes on the eve of a pivotal congressional health care vote and will send a jolt through a Democratic House Caucus that has already been unnerved by the recent retirements of a handful of members who, like Griffith, hail from districts that offer prime pickup opportunities for the GOP in 2010.

The switch represents a coup for the House Republican leadership, which had been courting Griffith since he publicly criticized the Democratic leadership in the wake of raucous town halls during the summer.

Let's see how blue those blue dogs really are.
